September and October 2014

Today our little Emily is 5 months old. (Actually, she's almost 6 months old at the time this is published, as it took me another almost month to finish this short post.)  She is currently napping on my chest.  It's amazing what skills I've mastered in the past 5 months, huh??  But seriously, when people told me time would fly by even faster once kids come along, I'm not sure I really believed them.  I often feel like my life flies by anyway, as it seems like it was just a couple of months ago that we just arrived in Japan.  But indeed, all of those people were correct.  Despite not working and being home a lot, the days, weeks and months have passed so quickly.  I haven't taken the time to write a post since she was just a few weeks old so I was going to do that.  I started compiling pictures and then realized that it would be a super long post, so I'm breaking up into a couple.

We'll start from where we left off.

Emily didn't like being swaddled for the first week or so, but we quickly learned that saddle = better sleep!  Shout out to Kate for highly recommending it!   I love hats and I love cats, so of course a pink cat hat..whoa!!   Karen gave us some snazzy month stickers.

Emily's first train ride was to Yokohama to El Torito so that this momma could have a well-deserved good margarita!  She's an excellent traveler, thanks to our Ergo, from Bryan's family.   She is also an awesome sleeper and has been sleeping through the night since about 2 months.  A picture of towels isn't exciting, but I smiled when I saw her rubber ducky towels hanging up with ours.  Her stuff is taking over the house!

We had fun at a little fall photo shoot at one of the nearby parks.  Sarah's mom made her the pumpkin hat.

Some of my previous students came to base.  They all enjoyed Taco Bell and then went bowling.  Yui loved holding Emily.  We celebrated my birthday with some chocolate chiffon cake.  So light and delicious.

By the end of October, Emily was 2 months old.  She was in the 82nd percentile for height and was trucking right along at the 19th percentile in weight.  She enjoyed cooing, smiling, and started sleeping through the night like a champion.  We celebrated Trick or Treating on base at Karen and Jerry's house and then I took some of my previous co-workers' kids Trick or Treating too.  It's such a fun American tradition to share with them.

As you can see, September and October weren't our most eventful months, but they were still so very memorable.  It was a fun time, adjusting to our new role as Mom and Dad. :-)
